Today we are delighted to offer for sale a World War I-era Bavarian military belt with two metal buckles and a metal match holder!
The belt itself is crafted of leather and is approximately 38″ in long (not including buckle). A strap of leather affixed to the back of the belt has seven sets of holes, allowing the wearer to adjust the waist size accordingly. A simple metal hook closure attaches to the buckle to secure it in place.
Also included are two Bavarian military belt buckles, one with a crown in the center and laurel leaves below, along with the phrase “Gott Mitt Uns” (“God with Us”) and the other with the same crown and laurel design, but the phrase “In Treue Fest” (“Steadfast in Loyalty, Firm in Fidelity”), the Kingdom of Bavaria’s motto.
Finally, you will receive a military-issue metal match holder, which has one open end and then oval openings on each side. One side bears the emblem of the German Iron Cross, which contains a crown, the letter W and the year 1914. The other side has what appears to be a German coin affixed to it.
Belt presents in good antique condition, with stiffness to the leather and wear and scratches commensurate with age and use. There is one notable cut in the leather on the inside of the belt, but this is very shallow and does not go through to the outside. Buckles have patina, rust and dings befitting their age and use, and the match holder is bent and also has rust and patina. We have left them in their as-found condition to allow you to decide how to care for them. Please review all photos prior to purchase.
